HL7 FHIR
Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources
FHIR is the modern HL7 standard for exchanging healthcare data between systems, built on ordinary web APIs and structured as discrete resources — a patient, an observation, an encounter.
Why it matters
It is what makes an integration a project rather than an expedition. Where a system speaks FHIR, connecting to it is standard engineering; where it does not, someone has to build an interface.
